KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will participate in a demonstration flight using ZeroAvia’s hydrogen-electric engine equipped to a large regional turboprop.
As part of an agreement between the two companies, they aim to conduct an initial A-to-B flight demonstration using ZeroAvia’s ZA2000 system between two airport locations in 2026.
The immediate workstreams will be geared towards securing regulatory permits to fly, ensuring the supply of liquid hydrogen fuel, and putting the supporting infrastructure for aircraft fuelling in place.
KLM wants to produce evidence to support the adoption of cleaner fuel throughout its network, aligning with one of its three pillars to help the aviation sector decarbonise. H2 View understands the demonstration project could also accelerate the development of concepts of operations for hydrogen aircraft across the EU.
