Sweden’s H2 Green Steel has signed a seven-year supply agreement with KIRCHHOFF Automotive for the delivery of its hydrogen-produced steel, valued at €130m ($141.5m).
It comes as the German automotive supplier tries to decarbonise its supply chains. Around 50% of its material purchases are accounted for by steel – with 90% of its carbon footprint determined by steel and aluminium.
Under the supply agreement, deliveries for steel produced using hydrogen from H2 Green Steel’s plant in Boden, Sweden, to KIRCHHOFF plants across Europe from 2027.
