Kent to deliver detailed engineering studies for EET’s hydrogen production plant

Turkish engineering procurement and construction (EPC) company ENKA has selected Kent to undertake the detailed engineering of the Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen production plant in Cheshire, UK.

Under the contract, the energy services provider Kent will help deliver the low-carbon hydrogen production plant (HPP1) at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port. Kent has previously helped deliver the early development phases of HPP1.

ENKA was awarded the EPC contract for the project earlier this month. Hakan Kozan, a Member of the Executive Committee from ENKA, claimed Kent’s “expertise and dedication” have been “invaluable throughout the development process.”

HPP1 is expected to have a production capacity of 350MW and capture over 600,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. Furthermore, it is part of the HyNet Cluster and will help the UK achieve 4GW of low-carbon hydrogen production.

Once operational, the hydrogen will be supplied to industrial businesses in the North West of England.

“We are proud to partner with ENKA and EET in delivering the HPP1 project, the first of its size and type in the UK,” explained Usman Darr, Managing Director of Engineering and Consultancy UK at Kent.

“Kent has been a long-term partner in the development of the HyNet cluster, having delivered concept, pre-Front-end engineering and design (FEED), and FEED stages of HPP1.”

Darr added, “We also provided technical and consent advisory services, playing a key role in shaping the project’s early phases. Now, as the project moves into execution, we are bringing our proven expertise in delivering complex projects to ensure its success.”
