East Japan Railway (JR East), Hitachi and Toyota Motor Corporation are developing a hydrogen-powered prototype rail vehicle.
Nicknamed Hybari (hydrogen-hybrid advanced rail vehicle for innovation), the test vehicle will combine the three company’s railway and automotive technologies.
JR East will provide railway vehicle design and manufacturing technologies, Hitachi will provide a hybrid system and Toyota will provide its fuel cells developed for its Mirai cars and Sora buses.
