Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) will jointly study the development of liquid hydrogen shipping solutions.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Woodside Energy, HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), and Hyundai Glovis, they will evaluate the transport of liquid hydrogen.
As part of the study, the companies will assess the technology, safety, construction, operation, and economics of a carrier with 80,000m³ tank capacity, aiming to establish a liquefied hydrogen supply chain in Asia and other regions.
If the MoU results in a project, the companies aim to have the vessel built and into operations by 2030, using hydrogen as its main fuel.
