Johnson Matthey and Sibanye-Stillwater on Friday (19th March) agreed a strategic partnership in which the two companies will focus on developing a number of opportunities to drive technological innovation, including hydrogen, and ensure more sustainable supply chains for customers.
The agreement will see the firms collaborate on the sourcing and application of platinum group metals (pgms) and metals used in battery technology to enable the development and commercialisation of low carbon technologies, with a focus on circularity and sustainability.
Pgms, due to their unique properties, play a vital role in low carbon technologies enabling the path for various nations and companies to hit net zero targets around the globe.
For instance, pgms are at the heart of electrolyser technologies for producing green hydrogen and are also a crucial component for fuel cells, facilitating the conversion of hydrogen into electrical energy with no harmful emissions.
