JERA completes truck-to-ship ammonia bunkering in Japan

JERA has completed a truck-to-ship ammonia bunkering trial to fuel an ammonia-powered tugboat in Yokohama City Port, Japan.

Ammonia produced by Resonac at its Kawasaki plant from waste plastic fuelled the NYK Line tugboat from a tanker truck to power the vessel’s sea trial which is expected to be concluded in late August.

Once the tug’s trial concludes, the JERA will supply ammonia fuel to ship operator Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha Corporation.
