Companies in Italy, Austria and Germany have revealed plans to combine hydrogen pipeline projects to establish a 3,300km hydrogen-ready corridor which they say could deliver 40% of Europe’s imported hydrogen demand in 2030.
Italy’s Snam, Trans Austria Gasleitung (TAG), Gas Connect Austria (GCA) and German-based bayernets, have formed a partnership to develop the so-called SoutH2 Corridor, a hydrogen-ready pipeline corridor connecting North Africa to central Europe.
Aimed at enabling the for production of renewable hydrogen in North Africa and southern Europe and its transport to reach European consumers by 2030, the respective ministries of energy of the partner’s countries have announced support from the project to obtain the status of Project of Common Interest (PCI).
