Irish electricity firm trials hydrogen power unit at Dublin head office

Irish electricity firm ESB is using a hydrogen fuel cell power unit at its Dublin head office as part of a wider demonstration lighthouse project.

The GeoPura Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU) is supplying up to 250kW of clean power to the office when required, as ESB looks to prove the potential of using hydrogen-to-electricity technology.

With plans for additional HPU trials across Ireland in 2024 and early 2025, it comes as the country looks to meet its National Hydrogen Strategy goals of decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and enhancing energy security.
