Intelligent Energy to debut hydrogen fuel cell tech at Farnborough Airshow

Intelligent Energy (IE) has launched a new product line of fuel cell solutions suitable for zero-emission eVTOL sub-regional and regional aviation.

The IE-FLIGHT family has been designed to decarbonise short-haul aviation through hydrogen power. The company is expected to unveil the initial F300 fuel cell system at the UK-based Farnborough International Airshow this week (July 22-26).

The system encompasses high-temperature heat rejection technology that reduces the size of the fuel cell heat exchanger and decreases drag. It can be installed on new Part-23 aircraft designs or retrofitted onto existing applications. Due to its architecture, it’s scalable for multi-MW fuel cell installations, making it suitable for Part-25 aircraft.

H2 View understands that the IE-FLIGHT system has a simplified balance of plant with fewer components when compared to typical PEM fuel cell systems. Ultimately, this will increase power density, reliability and reduce cost at volume production.
