Long range, quick refuelling and low-cost hydrogen-powered buses, trucks, rail and marine vessels are to be developed by industry veterans Ballard Power Systems and Chart Industries as part of a new partnership.
The North American-based companies yesterday (10th Feb) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the collaboration that will focus on the development of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty transport.
Confirming details of the agreement, Chart said it will provide its liquid hydrogen expertise, from liquefaction plants to storage, fuelling and on-board tanks. The cryogenic equipment specialist will also offer an existing liquid hydrogen onboard vehicle tank prototype design.
“Given both of our companies’ extensive experience in the Class 8 long haul truck, bus, rail and marine areas of transportation as well as hydrogen, this combination of expertise will create a unique, differentiated and cost-effective solution for transportation customers as the industry moves to cleaner power,” said Jill Evanko, Chart’s President and CEO.
