Japanese engineering company IHI Corporation and Petronas subsidiary Gentari Hydrogen have signed an MOU to explore developing a global green ammonia value chain.
The MOU covers the production, transportation, storage and utilisation of green ammonia in Asia-Pacific and other areas of mutual interest.
Additionally, the parties will also explore progressing the commercial utilisation of IM270, a fully ammonia-powered gas turbine, developed by IHI with support from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO).
This commercial demonstration, scheduled to launch in 2026, could potentially be the world’s first fully ammonia-powered gas turbine according to IHI.
