Hyzon has logged an order for two hydrogen fuel cell trucks from a San Francisco-based refuse collection firm.
The US fuel cell maker and truck integrator announced South San Francisco Scavenger Co. had ordered two 200kW Class 8 fuel cell electric trucks (FCETs) built in cooperation with New Way Trucks.
Coming off the back of numerous trials and its first refuse collection FCET order in October, the new deal will be subject to conditions, including the “availability of applicable subsidies.”

California offers two key incentive schemes for prospective fuel cell electric vehicle buyers: the HVIP for $240,000-288,000 per truck; and the ISEF for up to $408,000 per truck.
“We are excited to integrate Hyzon’s hydrogen-powered trucks into our fleet,” said Doug Button, Preside of South San Francisco Scavenger Co. “This partnership reflects our commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies that reduce emissions while maintaining the performance standard our community relies upon.”
The FCET is said to offer up to 125 miles of range on one tank of hydrogen. It will also use Hyzon’s new 200kW single-stack fuel cell, which when equipped to a Class 8 heavy-duty truck, is claimed to offer 450kW of power.

“Hyzon’s fuel cell technology combines zero-emission performance with the power and reliability needed for demanding applications like refuse collection,” claimed Hyzon CEO, Parker Meeks.
