European-based project HySTOC has successfully commissioned a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) plant system in Finland for the storage and release of hydrogen from a liquid medium carrier to be used in fuel cells and hydrogen filling stations.
The released hydrogen is planned to fulfil very strict purity demands in order to be applicable with fuel cell vehicles after which it will be installed in a release box at its final destination – a public hydrogen filling station.
Finnish research institute VTT is currently testing the re-released hydrogen for its quality over a minimum period of six months totalling over 2,000 hours due to the strict hydrogen purity levels that must be ensured for use in fuel cells.
