Poland’s Hynfra and Spanish deep-tech firm Jolt Solutions have agreed to jointly explore how they can improve electrolyser efficiencies and lower the levelised cost of ownership (LCOH).
Under a Letter of Intent (LOI), Jolt will supply its electrode technology. Its Sparkfuze coating process reportedly enables “faster and more effective production” of high-performance electrodes.
In an online statement, Jolt said this could extend the operational lifespan of an electrolyser and improve its efficiency. Therefore, Hynfra could use it in its industrial-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects.

Together, they will work on technical evaluations and feasibility studies. The two companies will explore opportunities for collaborative research, pilot deployments and partnerships with industrial players.
The companies have also invited industry stakeholders, electrolyser manufacturers and energy investors to engage in discussions about how Jolt’s technology can be adopted on a global scale.
“Scaling renewable hydrogen production requires solving fundamental technological challenges,” explained Tomoho Umeda, CEO of Hynfra. “Current investments in electrolysis are significant, but without improvements in electrode performance, the process remains costly and inefficient.”
Leon Rizzi, CEO of Jolt, added that the collaboration allows the company to test its product in full operations.
“Improving the efficiency and durability, coupled with speedy, localised refurbishment of electrodes will help reach the cost targets for green hydrogen,” Rizzi said.
In 2023, the Spanish firm announced it would deploy a new technique for coating electrolyser electrodes in “under one minute.”

According to Jolt, the Sparkfuze H2+ electrode pairing for both alkaline and AEM electrolysis managed to lower voltage requirements to less than 1.75V at 1.2A/cm2 at 60oC.
