Hygreen launches AEM electrolyser product line and secures first customer

China’s Hygreen Energy has launched its new anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser system and secured its first domestic customer.

H2 View understands that the AEM electrolysers are customisable for hydrogen generation up to 500kW and can operate efficiently across a load range of 10-120%.

One of Hygreen’s AEM systems will be used in the Chinese demonstration project, ‘Hydrogen into Ten Thousand Homes.’ This initiative aims to promote the utilisation of hydrogen energy and applications in industrial parks.

Hygreen is scheduled to deliver the 10kW AEM system this month (September) before it’s expected to be commissioned in October (2024). The customer intends to expand usage with more AEM electrolysers over time.

“Hygreen Energy’s new AEM electrolyser system represents a significant leap forward in hydrogen production technology by combining safety, operational flexibility and a turnkey approach,” explained Benny Wang, CEO of Hygreen Energy.

“Our AEM system is designed to be competitive across a wide range of applications, and we are excited to see its impact on the future of the hydrogen sector alongside our highly successful alkaline and PEM electrolysers.”

The Beijing-headquartered company has recently been working its way into the Spanish hydrogen industry. The firm recently announced plans to build a 5GW alkaline electrolyser factory in Malaga, as part of a €2bn ($2.2bn) European expansion plan.

The site’s capacity will depend on the company’s European growth and market demand. Hygreen has not revealed when the factory will come online or what capacity is initially expected.

Speaking to H2 View in July (2024) Hygreen’s Ethan Hugh, Global Marketing Director, claimed the company’s non-domestic market could overtake demand in China by next year (2025).
