Hygreen delivers 25MW electrolyser system for hydrogen blending and refuelling initiatives

Hygreen Energy has delivered a 25MW alkaline electrolyser system to Huadian Weifang Power Generation, enabling the production of up to 3.6 tonnes of hydrogen daily.

The electrolyser manufacturer supplied five 5MW electrolyser stacks to Huadian’s project, which will be integrated into its existing power plant in Weifang and used to produce hydrogen for an onsite refuelling station and blending with natural gas through pipelines for use by enterprises and residents.

It represents the first large-scale hydrogen energy storage demonstration under China’s ‘Hydrogen Into Ten Thousand Homes’ initiative.

H2 View understands that installation and commissioning of the electrolysers began in November 2024 and are scheduled to be completed in Q1 2025.

Benny Wang, CEO at Hygreen Energy, claimed the project is a “significant development” in the Shandong region’s renewable energy transition and implementation of larger electrolyser systems.

“With its 25MW scale, our successful delivery is an important validation of the role of electrolysers in larger scale hydrogen projects and showcases Hygreen Energy’s proven technology for other projects worldwide.”

Last September (2024), Hygreen confirmed its intentions to build a 5GW alkaline electrolyser factory in Spain as part of its €2bn ($2.2bn) European expansion plan.

The Beijing-headquartered company wants to build a factory for its 5MW solutions in Malaga that will “comply with European compliance standards.”

A market for the taking: Hygreen’s international pivot

Those well-versed in hydrogen industry developments know that for some time, there’s been anticipation of new electrolyser players entering the market. Not start-ups promising significant green hydrogen production cost reductions. Nor those offering precious metal-free systems and other innovations.

Instead, that anticipation has centred around highly industrialised companies, with ambitions of shaking up the status quo. At the end of June, we saw a very public display of one of those companies that is now looking well beyond its borders to grasp the apparent green hydrogen opportunity. Its name? Hygreen Energy.

Hygreen is the new, globally repositioned brand of Beijing SinoHy Energy Co. (SinoHy). Founded in 2007, initially focused on PEM and alkaline electrolyser R&D, the company is ready to secure its place as a “leading” international electrolyser equipment manufacturer (OEM).
