Hydrogen trials to begin at Esmalglass’ ceramic frit plant in Spain

The necessary equipment to begin testing for hydrogen-produced ceramic frits has been installed at the Esmalglass frit plant located in Castellón, Spain.

The H2frit pilot project is being led by Esmalglass, bp, ITC-AICE and Carburos Metálicos (part of the Air Products Group) in collaboration with the National Association of Frit, Enamel, and Ceramic Colour Manufacturers (ANFFECC).

The three-year initiative aims to replace natural gas with hydrogen as fuel in the melting of ceramic frits. Two platforms for hydrogen storage and supply have been installed before tests are conducted in a pilot kiln operating with oxy-combustion.
