Hydrogen-powered rail is set to benefit from a new partnership between Alstom and Plastic Omnium which is looking to develop high-end hydrogen storage systems for the sector.
The duo today (September 21) formalised such commitment as part of an effort to both decarbonise railways and enhance existing technologies used in locomotives.
It is hoped the new solutions will hit markets for regional trains in France and Italy in 2022. To do this, a dedicated team has been formed to manage the technical and commercial development of the onboard storage solutions.
