A new report released today by the Hydrogen Council underscores the integral role of hydrogen in transitioning global energy systems from unabated fossil fuels to clean energy.
Hydrogen in Decarbonized Energy Systems, co-authored by global energy advisory firm Baringa, details the benefits of incorporating hydrogen in evolving energy systems through an analysis of three contrasting regional energy systems, in Texas, Central Western Europe (CWE), and Japan.
The report finds CWE will evolve to mix both imported and domestically produced hydrogen and renewables; Japan will need new import infrastructure to deliver decarbonised energy using hydrogen and ammonia; and Texas will continue to be an energy exporter but with much more coming from solar and wind via hydrogen. CWE is forecasted to lead hydrogen demand (33Mt), followed by Japan (25Mt) and Texas (16Mt).
