Hydrogen-fuelled ferry enters commercial service in San Francisco Bay

A hydrogen-powered ferry owned by SWITCH Maritime is set to begin running commercially this week in San Francisco Bay, the US.

San Francisco Bay Ferry and a group of private and public sector partners will launch the MV Sea Change on July 19, offering free transportation between Pier 41 and the Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal.

The 70-foot ferry was developed with support from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and can hold 75 passengers, utilising 360kW of PEM fuel cells from Cummins. It can reach a top speed of 15 knots, travelling up to 300 miles.
