The Hydrogen Council has undertaken modelling work to quantify the system benefits of hydrogen across the key energy markets of Central West Europe, Japan and Texas.
Providing a sneak peek of research set to be published shortly, to delegates at the opening session of hy-fcell in Messe Stuttgart, Daria Nochevnik, Director of Policy and Partnerships, said it identified demand of 32.5m tonnes of hydrogen for Central West Europe by 2050.
Hydrogen gas will be piped into the region from four corridors envisaged by the European Hydrogen Backbone, and just over 100kT per day of pipeline capacity will be needed by 2050.
The annual power system benefit could be worth around $6bn in Japan and Central Western Europe ($2.5bn in Texas).
