Hydrogen and natural gas blending in Georgia, US have been successful at partial and full loads on an M501G natural gas turbine at Georgia Power’s Plant McDonough-Atkinson in Smyrna, Georgia.
Mitsubishi Power, Georgia Power, and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) validated 20% hydrogen blending on an advanced gas turbine, resulting in around a 7% reduction in carbon emissions, it was announced today (June 10).
The Plant McDonough-Atkinson facility is located less than 10 miles from downtown Atlanta, powering up to 1.7 million homes, with its six M501G series gas turbines.
