North Carolina-based HydroFleet plans to invest almost $33m in building an integrated natural gas-based hydrogen production and refuelling station in Georgia to support heavy-duty fuel cell truck deployments.
The firm, which claims to have delivered 450,000kg of hydrogen fuel to end-user fleets since its founding in 2016, says the new facility in Pooler will refuel seven to 14 trucks per day initially.
In a presentation document, HydroFleet says it will produce hydrogen using a small-scale autothermal reformation (ATR) unit manufactured by OneH2.
The “R600” unit is expected to use pure water and natural gas as feedstocks. There is no mention of the hydrogen production system’s CO2 emissions or plans to integrate carbon capture technology.
However, H2 View calculates a system of this kind would generate around 8.8 tonnes of CO2/day while producing 1,200kg of hydrogen.
The Pooler site will also use OneH2’s storage trailers and dispensing units.
In the future, the company says the site could scale up to support the fuelling of up to 50 trucks, producing 4,200kg/day.
While not explicitly linking the two, HydroFleet highlighted Hyundai’s recent deployment of 21 Class 8 XCIENT fuel cell trucks to bring parts to its EV plant in Georgia – just 16 miles from Pooler.

Hyundai at the time said that its joint venture with Californian logistics firm Glovis Americas would install a hydrogen refuelling station at the EV plant, with hydrogen production capacity expected at a later date.
“Pooler is an ideal location for HydroFleet’s facility due to the proximity to major interstates, the Port of Savannah and prospective fleet customers,” said HydroFleet CEO Scott Moe.
