Hydnum Steel’s €1.65bn plant secures government support

Hydnum Steel’s green steel mill in Spain is set to receive government support, ahead of initial works planned to begin next year.

Powered by renewable energy and green hydrogen, the Puertollano plant has obtained the declaration of a ‘Priority Project’ by the Government of Castile-La Mancha.

Up to 1.5 million tonnes of rolled steel is expected by 2026, before capacity is increased to 2.6 million tonnes from 2030. In addition, the plant will receive an investment of close to €1.65bn ($1.8bn), generating over 500 jobs in phases one and two, planned for 2026-2029.
