Hy Stor Energy has cancelled its reservation for over 1GW of electrolyser capacity with Nel.
The US-based firm had agreed to purchase alkaline electrolyser equipment from Norway’s Nel to support its Mississippi Clean Hydrogen Hub (MCHH).

However, Hy Stor has now decided to terminate the agreement, although no reason was given. A press release from Nel stated, “The capacity reservation was not considered order intake, hence the cancellation will not impact the order backlog. Nel will retain the non-refundable capacity reservation fee.”
H2 View understands that the hub is scheduled to be the largest off-grid hydrogen production and salt cavern storage hub in the US.
Once operational, the hub would use power supplied via on-site wind turbines and solar panels with more than 70,000 tonnes of hydrogen stored in 10 salt caverns in Mississippi.
Although, the hub was one of the projects to miss out on the US’ $7bn Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub awards in 2023 after only seven were selected to receive between $750m and $1.2bn of federal funds.
