Truck manufacturer Hydrogen Vehicle Systems (HVS) has agreed to develop two hydrogen-powered Grant Touring (GT) racing cars in collaboration with Dawson Technologies.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the companies have announced plans to develop two “GTh” vehicles as part of a five-year partnership, with an opportunity for future joint projects.
The two UK-based firms will share data and innovations developed via the partnership to ensure they both benefit from the outcomes. They aim to generate revenue and ensure a return on their investments.
Dawson will make its vehicles available for technical testing and promotional activities, whilst HVS will offer its hydrogen heavy goods vehicle (HGV) demonstrators to Dawson for similar purposes. H2 View understands they will be fuel cell-powered vehicles.
The companies will adopt a shared branding strategy featuring the D3/HVS logo across marketing and promotional activities.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to combine our expertise with HVS in developing cutting-edge hydrogen technologies,” explained Ian Dawson, CEO and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Dawson Technologies.
“The completion of these demonstrators will be a game-changer in demonstrating the viability of hydrogen propulsion technology in both GT racing cars and heavy-duty transport.”
Steve Fletcher, HVS’ CTO, added, “This programme of work allows us to apply the advanced powertrain and control technology we have developed for our own products and adapt it to a new application.
“However, the boundary conditions for high-performance racing cars provide us with a great platform for R&D and allow us to assess emerging technologies that advance our combined team knowledge.”
HVS has spent the past year testing its hydrogen-powered HGV products at its trial sites around the UK.
Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) John McLeister, previously told H2 View that HVS is part of the hydrogen “revolution.”

He said HVS’ hydrogen technology “needs no introduction.” McLeister continued, “It’s been tested and proven in a number of applications, not just on trucks, but also buses, coaches, etc.”
