Himachal Pradesh wants to become the ‘first green state’ in India by 2025 after signing an MoU with HLC Green Energy.
The company intends to produce 0.3 million MT of green hydrogen and 1.5 million MT of green ammonia annually, supported by investments of Rs 4,000 Crore, according to India media reports.
Himachal Pradesh is home to five major river basins, Satluj, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Yamuna, with total hydro power potential of around 25GW. The northern state also has an estimated capacity of 34GWp solar, 84MW wind and 27MW Biomass power potential. It is bordered by Jammu & Kashmir on North, Punjab on West and South-West, Haryana on South, Uttarakhand on South-East and China on the East.
Developing new industries comes amid existing economic challenges. Two cement plants have closed, leaving thousands without work, according to reports.
