HB11 Energy has been awarded a grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE) for its Innovation Network for Fusion Energy (INFUSE) programme, focused on innovative hydrogen-boron fuel.
The project will see hydrogen-boron developed as an alternative fuel to the deuterium-tritium used in other fusion approaches. However, HB11 technology uses a laser to drive the aneutronic hydrogen-boron-11 fusion reaction to produce energy.
The programme will provide access to world-leading expertise from the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at the University of Rochester, led by HB11 Energy’s Professor Thomas Mehlhorn and LLE’s Professor Adam Sefkow, centred around innovative hydrogen-boron fuel targets to develop clean and safe fusion energy.
