Hangyang has successfully commissioned its “Hydrogen Comprehensive Energy Island Project” in China, which is reportedly capable of supplying nine tonnes per day of hydrogen.
Located in the Shanxi Province, the hub will provide electric charging, liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling and hydrogen refuelling to support fleets of Jinnan Steel and nearby factories. Hangyang has said it will be capable of refuelling over 400 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks.
The hydrogen, reported to have a purity level of 99.999%, is extracted from coke oven gas through pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology and is delivered directly to the hydrogen refuelling station via pipeline, which is forecasted to cost only 30% of traditional tube trailer supply.
Hangyang’s hydrogen refuelling station features a high-pressure, liquid-driven compressor, which is anticipated to boost hydrogen from 3MPa to 45MPa and reduce equipment costs and footprint.
This is the second collaboration between Hangyang and Jinnan Steel on hydrogen applications after they established the region’s “first” refuelling station in 2022, which has a daily capacity of 10 tonnes, making it the largest commercially operated facility in China.
Additionally, the Chinese firm’s subsidiary, Hangyang Cryogenic Vessel, constructed and delivered a 100m3 liquid hydrogen storage tank for one of its clients on October 16.
This was designed to ensure “exceptional hydrogen purity and minimal loss during storage and operation.”
