Danish engineering firm Haldor Topsøe and private equity firm Aquamarine are set to build a new green ammonia facility including a 100MW solid oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC) electrolysis unit in Germany.
The site will be developed in multiple construction phases in Northern Germany, close to existing offshore wind farms, where the product can be sold to the marine shipping industry.
Initially, the proposed project will use Topsøe’s proprietary SOEC to produce green hydrogen from 100MW of renewable energy.
The hydrogen that is produced from this will be further processed into 300 ton/day of green ammonia using Topsøe technology, which the company previously said “can unlock the full potential of renewable power”.
