Haffner Energy will begin producing renewable hydrogen via its organic waste thermolysis process at its Marolles Champagne facility in France.
Following a year of development, the facility is now equipped with next-generation, standardised industrial production equipment and has been designed to operate continuously for 8,000 hours a year.
H2 View understands that the plant will produce and market “mobility-grade” hydrogen at a rate of “15kg per hour, or almost 120 tonnes per year – the equivalent of 12 million kilometres driven by hydrogen-powered vehicles.”
The French firm entered its syngas production phase last June. The renewable gas is expected to meet the requirements for green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and methanol.
To showcase this, Haffner recently partnered with IðunnH2 to jointly develop a 300MW SAF plant, which will implement the company’s Gasliner equipment, which gasified biocarbon and increases renewable gas production.

Haffner Energy has successfully raised over €1m to accelerate its progress towards imminent hydrogen production. Half a million euros was secured via the France 2030 Regionalised programme, co-financed by the French government.
“This site seemingly is the world’s first unit ever built for the continuous production of hydrogen from solid biomass,” claimed Philippe Haffner, Co-Founder and CEO of Haffner Energy.
“It is going to provide a tremendous boost to order intakes: visits from customers and partners from a dozen countries and four continents have already taken place or are planned between early November and Christmas.”
