H2FLY couples liquid hydrogen storage and fuel cell systems with HY4 aircraft

German-based H2FLY has today (April 28) announced it has successfully coupled its liquid hydrogen storage system with the fuel cell system within its HY4 aircraft.

Coming as part of Project HEAVEN, focused on the design, development and integration of fuel cell and cryogenic powertrains for commercial aircrafts, the test took place in collaboration with project partner Air Liquide at its Campus Technologies Grenoble in Sassenage, France.

The coupling represented as the “final” technological building block in the development of the hydrogen-electric powertrain to power the HY4 aircraft, which will allow the company to scale-up its technology for a 40-seater aircraft.
