Hydrogen-powered haircuts are now a reality in Australia, thanks to a new demonstration trailer in New South Wales featuring hydrogen fuel cell, solar photovoltaic and lithium-ion battery storage technologies.
Dubbed H2Cuts, the demonstration trailer is a result of a partnership between New South Wales’ Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Sustainable Salons to explore an alternative path to low or zero emission energy.
Comprised of a 2,000W fuel cell, 800W solar panels and a 100Ah 24v lithium-ion battery and a DC/AC power inverter, the trailer allows free haircuts powered by hydrogen at field days and other events.
Pure hydrogen gas is supplied by a gas cylinder (green cylinders either side of cabinets), reacting with oxygen from the air inside the fuel cell to create electrons (power).
