France’s Dunkirk is set to become the focus of a GRTgaz feasibility study to explore the construction of a 20km (12 mile) structure to transport low-carbon hydrogen to the industrial and port area.
The plans come after 11 companies responded to the French gas transmission operator’s call for those in the area which are likely to interested in future hydrogen infrastructure, five of which are hydrogen producers with up to 1GW of installed capacity, with the remaining six being industrial consumers.
H2 View understands, the respondents, including the likes of ArcelorMittal, Imerys, and H2V have agreed to co-finance the study, which falls in line with the decarbonisation ambitions of the Grand Port Maritime de Dunkirk and the Urban Community of Dunkirk.
