Green Hysland in the Balearic Islands is set to benefit from a €10m grant to push forward the development of a major green hydrogen project, the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) said today.
The grant marks the second largest grant by the European Commission body for a green hydrogen project and the largest ever grant offered to a Mediterranean country.
In line with the EU Hydrogen Strategy, the project will make Green Hysland the first Southern European Flaghsip project. Once complete, the project will generate, distribute and use at least 300 tonnes of renewable hydrogen locally per year, produced from solar energy.
The project will also boost Spain as a technological benchmark in the production and use of renewable hydrogen, with a production capacity of four-gigawatts by 2030.
