Green hydrogen project wins EU backing

A consortium comprising Nouryon, Gasunie, McPhy and three other partners have won EU backing for their pioneering green hydrogen project.

Located in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, the project consists of a zero-carbon hydrogen plant with a production capacity of 3,000 tonnes per year.

According to the partners, the 20MW electrolyser, to be owned and operated by Nouryon and Gasunie, would be the first-of-its-kind to be implemented in Europe on this scale.

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) has awarded the consortium an €11m grant and the project is also supported by an additional €5m in subsidies from Waddenfonds, a fund that invests in projects in the northern Netherlands.
