Technology from American manufacturing firm W.L Gore and Associates has received a prestigious award from Toyota Motor Corporation for its contribution and value in the 2021 hydrogen-powered Mirai.
W.L Gore’s Gore-Select membrane technology received Toyota’s Project Award in the Technology Section, following increased performance and integration into the new Mirai.
Toyota incorporated the Gore-Select Membrane as its PEM (proton exchange membrane) – the core material of its fuel cell stack.
The membrane now helps deliver the second-generation of Mirai with a greater level of performance. Toyota reports 128kW (174 PS) of maximum fuel cell output with fuel efficiency of 152km/kg, translating to a cruise range of 850km.
