Germany has agreed to support Morocco’s efforts to expand renewable energy and green hydrogen production with plans to import the energy carrier.
It comes as Germany looks to secure future hydrogen suppliers to cut emissions from its industry while reducing reliance on natural gas, with plans to import up to 70% of its hydrogen demand in 2030.
“Morocco has enormous potential for renewable energy and green hydrogen,” said Stefan Wenzel, secretary to Germany’s Climate Minister. “We also want to support the development of a hydrogen economy for the benefit of both parties and provide political support for the participation of German technology companies and suppliers.”
