Mainspring Energy announced what it called a breakthrough towards a resilient, zero-carbon electric grid, as its Linear Generator successfully completed tests to run on 100% hydrogen and 100% ammonia.
The California, US-based firm said, it is the first power generation technology to provide this level of fuel flexibility within a single product, significantly reducing customer investment risk in delivering low-cost electricity for both power grids and commercial and industrial uses.
In addition to hydrogen and ammonia, the Mainspring claims the generator can run on biogas, natural gas, and other widely available gaseous fuels, and can switch between fuels automatically with software-based control.
