GE Vernova and IHI Corporation will jointly develop a gas turbine combustor capable of using hydrogen-produced ammonia for power generation.
Under a Joint Development Agreement (JDA), the two companies will progress to the next phase of technology and engineering for the project, expected to be compatible with GE Vernova’s 6F.03, 7F, and 9F gas turbines.
The combustion is set to take place in IHI’s Japanese facilities, where the technology concepts will be evaluated for its ability to meet key operational requirements and the impact on the entire power plant. The two-stage combustor is configured to burn up to 100% ammonia to comply with emission targets.
