Galvanising hydrogen value chains for a Net Zero future

Value chains for hydrogen as an energy carrier are still being developed. If they are to play their role in deep decarbonisation, diversity, and the development of hydrogen markets are essential.

Across production, storage, transportation, use, and consumption, hydrogen is an extremely versatile gas: the range of emerging value chains reflects that. By 2050, the vast majority of hydrogen produced is low carbon hydrogen either from renewable sources or carbon, capture and storage (CCS) based fossil production.

DNV’s Hydrogen Forecast to 2050 explores the efficiencies, economics, greenhouse gas emissions, transportation and geographic factors in determining viable value chains. Issues of public acceptance and safety are also pivotal.
