“The time of action is now and we as Europeans are perfectly placed. The only thing holding us back, I think, is a lack of self-confidence,” Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the European Green Deal, said this morning in his keynote speech at the European Hydrogen Forum.
“There’s no need for arrogance here, not at all, but some self-confidence I think is fully justified. As I said when I presented our strategy on hydrogen, hydrogen rocks, it rocks!”
“We have to make sure that people understand this and that we keep this momentum going.”
In difficult to abate sectors, like the fuels needed for aviation and heavy transport, and the issue of storage and transportation of renewable energy over long distances, Timmermans said, “Hydrogen will be key, and not just in Europe.”
