Australia’s Fortescue Metals Group has unveiled plans for a potential $8.4bn green hydrogen investment in Argentina, in a move that is expected to see Río Negro produce 2.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
Marking a major commitment for both Fortescue and Argentina’s hydrogen economy, the investment is believed to create more than 15,000 direct jobs and between 40,000 and 50,000 indirect jobs.
In order to confirm the planned capacities will be possible in the region, Fortescue will carry out a pilot stage, with an estimated investment of $1.2bn, which will produce 35,000 tonnes of green hydrogen.
