Floating LNG infrastructure firm rebrands to include hydrogen and ammonia

Höegh LNG has rebranded to Höegh Evi, reflecting its expanded focus beyond LNG imports to include hydrogen and ammonia.

The global floating LNG infrastructure company stated the name ‘Evi’ stands for “energy vector infrastructure,” reflecting its expansion.

The Norwegian firm, which boasts more than 50 years of experience, will now develop floating infrastructure for hydrogen and ammonia imports, along with carbon transport and storage (CCS).

The company’s President and CEO, Erik Nyheim said, “In a world of rapid change and evolving energy demands, customers need a partner to help them balance today’s energy security needs with tomorrow’s clean energy ambitions.

“Höegh Evi will continue to be a leading provider of floating LNG infrastructure while we are also applying our skills and experience to bring marine infrastructure for clean molecules into operation by the end of this decade.”

H2 View understands the company is currently developing marine infrastructure that includes floating ammonia and hydrogen import terminals, ammonia cracking technology and CCS.

In July (2024), it agreed to develop a floating hydrogen import terminal in Lubmin, Germany, with Deutsche ReGas, which is expected to feed into the country’s network.

Moving forward, Morten Høegh, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Höegh Evi, said the organisation will continue working on its strong reputation in the LNG industry, while “capturing the expansion of our focus in response to new demands and the energy transition.”

Høegh added, “Together, the Höegh Evi team both at sea and onshore is very excited to develop clean and efficient solutions to the benefit of people and the planet in the future.”
