First for Scotland: Plans submitted for hydrogen-powered homes

In a first for Scotland, plans have been submitted for 30 homes powered by hydrogen fuel cells to be built on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

Part of a larger development of more than 500 homes, developer Cognito Oak proposes incorporating micro-CHP fuel cell technology into 30 homes, located at Cloverhill, Bridge of Don, as part of a pilot scheme which would test the performance of the fuel cells in residential use.

A supporting statement lodged with the planning application said, “Cloverhill’s Aberdeen Hydrogen First initiative will act as a pilot scheme for a technology that is focused on encouraging low carbon output.”
