Fertiglobe ties up €397m ammonia supply contract with Hintco

H2Global’s Hintco has formally signed a contract with Fertiglobe to ensure the supply of 397,000 tonnes of green ammonia across two phases.

Fertiglobe won a €397m ($432m) contract to supply its Egyptian-produced green hydrogen-based ammonia to Germany in July (2024), under the first H2Global auction.

Under the contract, an initial supply of potentially 19,500 tonnes of green ammonia will be delivered to Europe from the Egyptian project by 2027. H2 View understands total deliveries are expected to rise to 397,000 tonnes by 2033, subject to production and supply conditions.

The plant plans to use a 100MW electrolyser powered by 270MW of renewables, but it is still awaiting a final investment decision (FID).

Haroon Rahmathulla, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Fertiglobe, claimed the award both helps secure long-term offtake and is a “critical step towards achieving a FID for Egypt Green Hydrogen.”

CEO of Hintco, Timo Bollerhey, added, “This is a significant moment for Hintco that proves progress is possible for the clean hydrogen market.

“As exciting as this moment is, my team is already focused on what comes next: new tenders for both clean hydrogen purchase and sales agreements. Time is short, and we must build both infrastructure and markets rapidly and efficiently if we’re to avoid climate catastrophe.”
