Will Wright followed the development of hydrogen cars very closely and as soon as he saw the range and infrastructure was there, he leapt on the bandwagon. Since May 2019, the Vice-President of Sales for Impact Coatings has been driving a Hyundai Nexo, and he says he has “no regrets”.
Founded in 1997, hydrogen technology company Impact Coatings has a longstanding relationship with Hyundai. The South Korean automaker announced in October 2019 it was investing in the Swedish firm in a bid to accelerate the widespread adoption of hydrogen technology by making fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) more accessible.
Impact Coatings supplies physical vapour deposition-based coatings for fuel cells. Under a joint development agreement, Hyundai and Impact Coatings will jointly research and develop a new generation of materials, processes and equipment for a variety of applications, including fuel cells and hydrogen production.
Given this relationship, Wright said the Hyundai Nexo was a natural fit. “I got the vehicle in May 2019 and have driven 52,000 kilometres with it, and I would say my user experience is very similar to a combustion engine.”
