German manufacturer Faun has begun producing hydrogen-powered waste collection vehicles and sweepers at its headquarters in Osterholz-Scharmbeck.
The commercial vehicles will be powered by a combination of hydrogen fuel cells and battery technology.
A hydrogen vehicle will go into real-world testing this month (August) in Bremen, with the first customer vehicles delivered in Autumn.
The entire development from the prototype to the vehicle ready for series production was funded with €500,000 from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP).
