New Zealand-based Fabrum and British engineering consultancy Filton Systems Engineering (FSE) have partnered with GKN Aerospace to accelerate aviation’s shift towards liquid hydrogen fuelled flight.
Under the partnership, the firms will support GKN in developing an end-to-end hydrogen fuel system, leveraging on FSE’s aerospace capability in fuel systems, and designing fuel, air, hydraulic, and engine systems, and Fabrum’s cryogenic and fuel tank storage technology.
A ground-based demonstrator of a 2.4kW liquid hydrogen system at FSE’s facility in Bristol, UK, has been jointly designed with GKN and built by FSE, under the Innovate UK-funded Safe Flight project. The companies have said the system demonstrates the feasibility of liquid hydrogen as an aircraft fuel source.
